“High-density polyethylene – milk bottles, water pipes, 3D printer thread.
Low-density polyethylene – clamp caps, playground slides, plastic wrap.“
Synthetics is the latest performance by choreographer Jivko Jeliazkov, in which he works with participants from the Dance PORT Derida – a one-year educational and training program in the field of contemporary dance, developed by Derida Dance Company. The team behind it describes it as a “dance performance about the plastic man”. It takes the audience on a journey into the world of polyethylene, a world which resembles our own world – with our disposable coffee cups, safety packaging, plastic milk bottles, toys, etc.
Jivko Jeliazkov is choreographer, who’s works have been presented in Vancouver, Tel Aviv (Suzanne Dellal Center), Jerusalem (Machol ShalemDance House) and Beijing. In 2017 he was awarded the national ICARUS Award for “Contemporary Dance and Performance” for his piece S INNER. In 2018 he was selected as one of the 20 of the most promising choreographers in Europe by Aerowaves – Dance Across Europe platform for contemporary dance.
This performance was realized with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria. The educational program #DancePortDerida 2018/2019 is supported by the America for Bulgaria Foundation.
