Moonlight

“I think you think I think about you when you think I think you think about me, and thats so cool.”

Nomination for the National ICARUS Award 2019 for Contemporary Dance and Performance

Moonlight is a choreographic project focused on poetic structures which function “as a quick machinery of change and disruption”. By playing around with Disney heritage, the performance offers a possibility to rediscover persistently established identities and to unfold normativity through queer practices. In this way Moonlight gradually studies the dispersing meanings of a changing reality, and becomes “a punk symphony of the recognizable”, which manages to overcome the viewers’ embarrassment with a magic wand.

Aleksandar Georgiev is a choreographer and performer, actively working in the field of contemporary dance since 2008. He holds a Master degree in Choreography from DOCH (Stockholm) and has been part of formal and non-formal educational programs such as NOMAD, SPAZIO, DanceWeb, 50 Days Fly Low and Passing Through, and Critical Practice program (3rd generation). He takes part in NGOs such as Garage Collective (Bulgaria), Interimkultur (Sweden), he is a member of Nomad Dance Academy. Recently, together with two other choreographers, Darío Barreto Damas and Zhana Pencheva, he has formed the non-formal group STEAM ROOM.

Darío Barreto Damas is an artist working in the field of dance and choreography. His education took place at Teatro Victoria, Tenerife; Institut del Teatre, Barcelona and DOCH, Stockholm. Darío has worked with Cullberg as a guest dancer and ccap / c.off, organisation lead by Cristina Caprioli. As a performer and dancer, Darío focuses in agency, adaptability, attention and ecology throughout the independency of dance as a general interest. Choreographically his focus sinks into utopian-dreamy spaces, decontextualizations and sensualities. Darío is member and co-founder (together with Aleksandar Georgiev and Zhana Pencheva) of the non-formal group STEAM ROOM.

The project was supported by The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Macedonia, Municipality of Centar City of Skopje, Konstnärsnämnden – Swedish Art Grants Committee (International Exchange Grant), Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria.
