Residency within the project “(NON)ALIGNED MOVEMENTS Strengthening contemporary dance in Western Balkans / NAM”
Pia Brezavšček graduated from Philosophy and Art History. She is a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Arts, Ljubljana. Her work includes writing, editing and dramaturgy. Since 2019, she is one of the two editors-in-chief of “Maska”, performing arts journal and also the editor of a discursive internet platform for local independent performing art Neodvisni. She published in various local and international publications and media (“Tribuna”, “Ekran”, “Kino!”, “ŠUM”, “Maska”, “Performance Research” etc.). Between 2017-2020 she was the president of The Association for Contemporary Dance, Slovenia. Her recent dramaturgical collaborations are mostly with Saška Rakef, with whom she created performances “Ideal (m)other “and “The Voice of Jackal” (Prix Italia special mention, Prix Europa nomination, Radio and Television Slovenia prize).
Her residency will be between 11 and 20 May.
In the residency, she will be getting to know Bulgarian contemporary dance scene better, watching performances from the third edition of Bulgarian Dance Platform and the international programme of “Antistatic” festival. Her focus will be besides getting to know the local scene, to possibly get in touch with interesting writers, artists and theoreticians working in the field of ecology and performance, futurology, deceleration and other topics Maska is currently dealing with.
